Here is a novel artful way to help out reconstruct the Louisiana coastline
UK Based artist Anthony Burrill’s poster “Work Hard And Be Nice To People” poster is almost a permanent fixture in many trendy homes and offices. His latest work has a bit more of an environmental message directed at the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. In fact, the artist used some of the oil gathered from the contaminated shoreline to create 200 limited edition prints aimed at raising money for the re-build efforts.
Belgian media agency Happiness Brussels invited Burrill to design the poster and these proved so popular the 200 prints are already sold out. Happiness sent a team out to the Gulf armed with buckets and spades to collect sand that had been polluted with oil from this summer’s catastrophe.
The sand was then to screen print the design which is bold and to the point: “Oil & Water Do Not Mix.” Gathering the oil wasn’t a problem because the sand had soaked so much oil the printers were able to extract and use it as ink.
All the money made from the sale of the 200 signed prints has gone to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL), a non-profit advocacy organization set up to help local people undo some of the damage done by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
