CARDBOARD
We all know it’s cheap, durable, readily available, familiar, portable, and recyclable. No special tools or skills are required to cut, bend, fold, stack, glue, or tape it. But if we stop to think a minute that almost every gadget and toy that will be given away this christmas will come in some kind of cardboard box, this potentially makes Xmas the single most wasteful event on the planet (and it happens every year!). But what if we could turn all the cardboard that is thrown out after Christmas into useful objects? What could you do with so much available material each year? The possibilities are endless…from an entire office, to toys, to computers and even a Christmas tree!
Here are some creative examples of the ingenious ways architects, designers, artists, and craftspeople have put cardboard to the test and successfully harnessed its amazing qualities. These are taken from the thought-provoking ‘Cardboard Book.’
